Jim Balkcom served as chairman of the advisory board to TalentQuest before joining the firm as a C-level mentor. For this somewhat specialized offering and business solution, Jim draws upon more than 25 years of experience as CEO and president. As his career exemplifies, Jim Balkcom is a business leader with a demonstrated ability to drive for organizational success. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Jim attended The Georgia Institute of Technology before being appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point. While serving in the Army and Vietnam, Jim received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and Vietnamese Distinguished Service Medal. He currently serves as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Georgia.

After receiving a Harvard MBA in Finance, Jim Balkcom began an illustrious business career. He has served as owner and CEO of Techsonic Industries, the developer of the state-of-the art liquid crystal depthsounders. After selling and exiting Techsonic, he became CEO of Pameco, an $800 million-revenue HVAC distribution company. He has also been chairman of the board, or been a board member of CommerceSouth Bank, Century South Bank and several high-technology companies. Most recently, Jim has been involved as a founding partner of Council Ventures, a venture capital group, and has served as an executive consultant at Equifax. He is also chairman of Endochoice, an early-stage healthcare company and a board member of State Bank and Trust, a newly formed $2.5 billion bank in Macon,GA.

As a C-level mentor, Jim believes in building successful coaching relationships through broad-based coaching. Such a coaching relationship is conducted in parallel with existing business and senior-level management relationships. Jim offers substantial credibility from a firsthand perspective with respect to business-based advice and strategic organizational decisions. In this consultative role, Jim provides valuable insight for young C-level executives, “high potentials” within large companies, and CEOs who are in transition. In addition to C-level coaching, Jim offers valuable insight into the dynamics of boards of directors. Having served on numerous boards, including several chairman positions, Jim channels his real-world perspective and successful business experience to promote communication, productivity, and integrity among board members.

Atlanta is home for Jim Balkcom and Linda, his wife of 42 years. Jim and Linda have two daughters and are proud grandparents to five beautiful grandchildren.
